Official attendance was 4,121 making this the second largest hoops attendance ever at FIU. Considering how lopsided the game even started, what would you say was the percentage of ucg fans versus FIU fans? I've read on their board it was a mostly canes' crowd, some even saying 70-30. What's your assessment?

ABSOLUTE EMBARRASSMENT !!! I WAS THERE AND FELT LIKE IT WAS A HOME GAME FOR UCG. SOMEONE HAS TO BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR HOW THIS GAME WAS ORGANIZED. FIU STUDENTS SHOULD HAVE ALL BEEN SEATED TOGETHER AND GIVEN GOLD OR BLUE T-SHIRTS. VISITING MIAMI FANS SHOULD OF BEEN SEATED IN A SPECIFIC LOCATION AS WELL. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED AT THE TURN OUT OF FIU FANS AND CANNOT IMAGINE HOW WE WERE NOT ABLE TO ORGANIZE THE GREEKS AND OTHER CAMPUS LIFE, INCLUDING (STUDENT ATHLETES) TO ALL BE SEATED IN ONE AREA TOGETHER ? HOW CAN THE ADMINISTRATION NOT TAKE ADVANTAGE OF A GAME THAT DRAWS MARGINAL INTEREST LOCALLY AND CREATE A HOME COURT ADVANTAGE FOR OUR GUYS ?? I HELPED COORDINATE THE GREEK INVOLVEMENT AT THE MICHIGAN GAME...WE PROBABLY HAD CLOSE TO 1,000 GREEKS ALL SITTING TOGETHER AND ANOTHER 1,000 STUDENTS WHO LIVED ON CAMPUS NEXT TO US....THERE WERE FEWER DORMS BACK THEN AND A LESS INTERESTED CAMPUS COMMUNITY. OUR GUYS MUST OF THOUGHT THEY WERE IN THE TWILIGHT ZONE, BECAUSE I DID. I WANTED TO PUKE EVERYTIME THE ORANGE CHEERED...TH DJ TRIED TO INSPIRE THE FIU FAITHFUL, HOWEVER THE RESPONSE WAS DROWNED OUT BY JEERING UCGers.... FIU DROPPED THE BALL ON THIS GAME. I HOPE THE $$$$$ IS WELL SPENT TOO. THE RESERVED SEATING LOWER BOWL WAS FILLED WITH ORANGE AND GREEN HOW CAN THAT BE ?? IF YOU WANT TO BUILD TRADITION, YOU MUST BE CREATIVE. LITTLE GIMMICKS WON'T DO THE TRICK, GETTING PEOPLE EXCITED AND INSPIRED IS NOT EASY. HOWEVER, IT SEEMED LIKE FIU DID NOT EVEN TRY TO PACK OUR HOUSE WITH STUDENTS AS FOR THE GAME, I THINK OUR GUYS WERE STUNNED FROM THE OPENING TIP AT THE ATMOSPHERE AND HOW LITTLE SUPPORT AND ENERGY THERE WAS FROM THE FIU COMMUNITY. THEY WERE MISSING EASY BASKETS AROUND THE HOOP AND HESITATED ON TAKING SHOTS. GALINDO NEEDS TO BE SHOOTING THE BALL AT LEAST 20 TIMES A GAME. FREE THROWS WERE TERRIBLE AND WE LACK SIZE. HICKS PLAYED DECENT AND IS AGGRESSIVE. THE POINT GUARD (JAMES) CANNOT RUN THE OFFENSE...THE CANES PLAYED WITHIN A GAME PLAN AND MADE FREE THROWS. THE GAME SHOULD OF BEEN MUCH CLOSER. ***SERGIO, SERGIO, SERGIO....C'MON BROTHER ?? I WANT TO ROOT FOR YOU, BUT THE TEAM HAS ZERO CHEMISTRY WHY ? FULLER WON'T SHOOT THE BALL, EITHER WILL WHITE ?? GALINDO AND HICKS SHOULD OF HAD AT LEAST 20 FGS EACH ?? NO ELSE WANTED TO SHOOT THE BALL EXCEPT FOR RUSSELL OFF THE BENCH, WHOM HAD GREAT ENERGY... EMBARRASSING LOSS FOR FIU. OPPORTUNITY WAS THERE AND NO ONE STEPPED UP. I HOPE THAT WE CAN LEARN FROM THIS. TAMPA IS 4 HRS AWAY AND I AM SURE THAT USF WILL WANT TO BRING A LARGE CONTINGENT IF TIX ARE MADE AVAILABLE TO THEM FOR NEXT SEASON'S OPENER AT THE NEW STADIUM... THIS CANNOT HAPPEN AGAIN !!!

Like I wrote before on the reserved seating and the students seating at the nose bleed section. It felt like a freaking scUM home game. I expressed how I felt to Jose Sotolongo and he got someone by the name of "Ivan" to talk to me. He just made it worse. He told me the students were not interested and had little response to pick up tickets, or something to that effect. I 'm really upset. When our team came out, they must have thought they were at UCG. The attendance was more like 80% to 20% scUM to FIU fans. One could only see some Blue & Gold sprinkled around a wave of freaking orange.

That's unacceptable. They definitely need to separate the two opposing fans and season ticket holders of course need to be given the best seats at the lower level on opposing sides. Then the FIU fans should take the remaining lower level seats and all the upper level seats, same with UCG fans. That's pretty irresponsible of the administration to that, wrong move.
And on this note, word needs to get about the games and the Greeks, and especially kids on campus need to know of the games and when they are, so we can get atleast a 1,000-2,000 strong as the basketball events!

He told me the students were not interested and had little response to pick up tickets, or something to that effect. students pick up tickets? Like FIU students pick up tickets? When we go to games we show our IDs and they just let us in. We don't pick up tickets, we have never had to do that.

Yea, we just show our IDs.
UCG brought a bus full of students. They're undefeated. I bet you if they weren't doing so well, it wouldn't be as full of UCG fans as it was.
Anyways, yea, it seemed like if it was more UCG than FIU, but our section (student section by the basket across the band) wasn't so bad. Max and I were trying to get people chanting and stuff. I do think that students and alumni need to show up more and cheer on our team, esp. in big games like these. Because our showing last night was pretty sad. But, you just gotta make the best of it like Max and I did and not let it get to you.

Friends of the GPC (Golden Panther Community),
First, i love your enthusiasm and emotion for FIU. Never loose it. It's contagious.
However, we need to take last night and put it into perspective. In order to do that, you'll all need to calm down just enough to rationalize the facts.
Fact 1 - UM b-ball is better than FIU b-ball right now. I agree, we should've put up a better fight, but winning was not in the cards last night.
Fact 2 - There was plenty more FIU fans that UM fans - UM fans were just louder.
Fact 3 - FIU fans, who are not used to winning, needs the team to perform well first then the cheering follows. unfortunately, FIU sports culture is not one that is supportive when the team is down. when the game opened on a UM 12-0 run, they effectively took the FIU fans right out of the game. i wish things were different. we need to change our culture.
Fact 4 - the Greeks lead the charge for the student body. anytime I've been at any FIU event where the students body seemed energized, it's been the Greek involvement that's provided the energy. last night, i did not see the wave of FIU Greeks. Greeks, you need to organize and mobilize. for FIU to defend its house, students and alum alike need Greek leadership. FIUPike, get more help next time and don't ever let anyone, especially Cane fans, come into our house and disrespect us with their cane cheer ever again.
who will protect this house, our house? win or loose, what happened last night should never repeat itself.

A lot of the Greeks have done the same thing in football games. I remember in Homecoming, they were there, but after they announced the winner of the Spirit Cup (is that what it's called?), the organizations that lost left. It's ridiculous.

most of the new administration is from UM...the ties run deep...i've said this all along! What do you mean? accommodating their former colleagues and friends at UM was a higher priority than the FIU supporters...the UM allegiance is very strong in the FIU athletic department and was evident sat night...seems to be a conflict of interest if u ask me...I’ve also herd many of them are just using FIU as a stepping stone to eventually get back to the U.. I guarantee that not one of the FIU administrative staff has the passion and love for FIU that some of the posters on this board express..think about it, their passion lies across town...many of them, especially ones recently hired, either worked, went to school, or coached there...how many have true FIU roots?

Gpantera: I am an alumnus and have very little time to be involved with my chapter there. I was the chapter/graudate advisor for 3.5 yrs (2000 - 2003), and helped get that house built. I will dropping a call to their exec.board to find out why in general there was very little interest among all the greeks

fiupike- there were a lot of pikes there. I saw atleast 15. More than any other organization, or it looked that way cause they all had their jerseys on. They did make a later entrance though so they were standing next to the student section for a bit before they were told to go up top and find seats...

Well that's very sad to think. I'd hate to have to believe that, because if not that's discouraging.
