Is this the beginning of the end for Mercenary U? Looks like they've taken the $$$ and are leaving the OB. Though they only averaged 41,900 fans last year, my guess is they are going to long for those numbers in the very near future. One other thing is as they lose the home field advantage, the visiting ACC teams are going to take advantage and fewer marginal fans are going to make the trip to JRS. Whose going to have the best home field advantage in S. Fla? FIU, that's who. www.miamiherald.com/598/story/210237.html

Will they do as is done at Raymond James for USF? I mean, with all the logos and stuff. When the Bulls play, all of the Bucs logos are on the field and all around the stadium. It will be a far cry from what UCG has been accustomed to. Isn't it nice to have your own place!!!!!!!!

This needs to be moved to Kremser's Kicks. It has nothing to do with FIU.

End of an era I really enjoyed watching both the both the dolphins and UM at the OB. Nice oppourtunity for FIU to do something special and create some memories in the new stadium.
As far as UM I'm sure they will maximize the ameneties at JRS. I don't expect their fan base to be affected. It certainly did not hurt the dolphins to leave the OB.

I can't believe them! How could they do this? The Orange Bowl is historical it's part of Miami's history. They're crazy for moving it. And they better not demolish the Orange Bowl, it is as much our history as the Freedom Tower!
Now this leaves the Marlins to take on the Orange Bowl and for FIU to have an increase in fans, who wants to drive up to Dolphin Stadium, and the Metrorail northern line isn't finishing until 2012!
GO FIU!!

This is a HUGE blow to their program. The mystique that came along with the Toilet Bowl is now gone. It is actually a shame that those short-sighted money hungry board members and administrators could not appropriately value the intangibles of the OB and what the impact of moving will do to the loyalty of their already poor fan base. Not only does scUM not have an on-campus stadium (a huge negative) but now their stadium will be even farther from campus, shared with a pro team and in poorly conducive setting for college football. There is no amount of modification that can be done to Dolphin Stadium to make it feel like the home of scUM, it is and will always be Dolphins first.
This, in turn, is a GOLDEN opportunity for our program to capture some of what scUM has lost with our new on-campus stadium. We must use this to our advantage in every way possible. Many will look back on this decision as a turning point in the South Florida college football scene.
