Looks like we're going to get two new housing buildings by 2010. While I was searching through the FIU Facilities website, I found the new Parkview Housing. It'll be the same size as Lakeview Housing, for 820 students including faculty housing, and retail in a "new urbanism" style to complement the "FIU Village" project that will occur around the stadium to the Wertheim Performing Arts Center. Parkview Housing will be located next to Panther Hall, where the large surface parking lot is by the nature preserve. It will also include parking garage VI next to the stadium, just east of it, where the current Lakeview Hall/Everglades Hall student parking is. Future expansion includes street parking, parking garage VII, and more housing all in between the stadium and the Performing Arts Center for the FIU Village. Sounds very, very good, and I definitely like the name, very classy. next to panther hall? are you talking about the parking lot for panther hall? I don't think that area is large enough for all that mess.
or are you talking about the parking lot across from Everglades, on the east side of the stadium?

Awesome news, kevin!!! Thanks for the link and information about this new "FIU Main Street"...It appears that this main street idea is just around the corner, as there is a definite date/year for the project to be finished....2010...and even expandable later on....wow!!! That, and later on the possibility of turning the corridor between FIU-University Park and the Engineering Center Campus into a "College Town" bodes so well into what I think should be done to 'convert' FIU into a more traditional college...
Can you imagine? Yes...A strong College of Law, a fledging beautiful Medical College with its complex area, a strong Architecture School...and our nationally and internationally recognized academic schools and colleges like Hotel Restaurant, College of Business/Accounting, Decision Sciences, etc......
With a new state of the art beautiful stadium on hand by 2008, and Phase II finished by 20011, an expanded system of on campus residents, by as much as 820 in just two years, with possibilities of adding extra 820 a couple of years later, with restaurants, shops, etc....and a College Town just north of the campus, with related "off-campus" housing, shops, bars, restaurants, parks, etc.......Can it happen? Can we dream about FIU's future...a lot of this in a relatively short period of time? Yes we can!!!

next to panther hall? are you talking about the parking lot for panther hall? I don't think that area is large enough for all that mess. or are you talking about the parking lot across from Everglades, on the east side of the stadium? Okay, Parkview Housing will be built next to Panther Hall, in the parking lot west of it, in between it and the nature preserve. Parkview Housing includes the 820-beds and mixed-used retail (meaning the shops will be on the first floor of the buildings, not separate buildings). There definitely is room to build the dorms there, it's a bit larger than the land where Lakeview Housing is now. Parking Garage VI however will go next to the stadium, to the east, where the other long, housing parking lot is (the one in between the stadium and the Performing Arts Center). Here is where the future expansion will occur, another 820-bed housing complex as well as parking garage VII on the opposite side of the parking lot, next to the PAC. Hope that makes sense. Regardless, this is great news and very exciting. Lakeview Housing was built and planned quickly in two years, so I think Parkview Housing, won't be any different. By 2010, we're going to have 3,900 students living on-campus plus the kids across the street at Vista Verde! GO FIU!

i know but if they are taking away parking in the process of building it, its just gonna be that much worse for the short amount of time..... how many spaces are we actually gaining? I know it says were gaining a 2000 space garage, but Id rather keep the lot we have and just add 2000.......
we're pretty well off i must admit since the only thing i really have to complain about is parking.... and I live on campus anyway so it isnt that big deal to me....
