I didn't get to watch the AD since I am on my cell phone.
I have a question, however, does FIU run numerous AD's during its televised football games to promote the university much like FSU does during every football game? I am not just saying locale, but any where the game is being showed nationally.
So, say a potential student or athlete is watching the Penn State game on Direct TV in Michigan. Will an AD come up to promote FIU nationally.

I saw this ad a little while ago on Roary's MySpace page.
There is no mention that it is in Miami besides a picture of Miami Beach. It might be hard for someone outside of South Florida to figure out that that the school is in Miami.

I liked it. Our target market is local Miami students, they know who FIU is and where we are, no need to beat them over the head with it. Just think it is refreshing to see a high-energy ad enthusiasticly promoting our university in contrast to those BORING commercials aired during the CSS games last year...students in front of white backgrounds talking about the school? man was that boring or what.

I just saw the video and I like it very much I guess this is where FIUFootballer and it seems a lot of other members and I differ. I hate that we only think of our target market as local Miami students. As of now it is true. But I truly believe this university should look beyond the 305, 954 area code and make a bigger name of themself outside the local community.

When Thomas Jefferson founded the University of Virginia in 1819 it was for the strict purpose of raising and developing the educational levels of Virginia scholars. Now that school is consistently amongst the top public schools in the country. Not to say it's going to take us 188 years to get there but it will take time for us to evolve to naturally recruiting students at the national level. We must remember there are thousands of universities nationally, only a small number of schools are truly national and not majorily dependent on local or in-state students.

I agree we need to start aiming outside of South Florida also. I am sure there are many intelligent and talented students that would love the chance to come to Miami and study. They just need to know that we are here.

Talk about about setting up a volley for a spike over there. scUM doesn't need ads, they get plenty of exposure on Court TV.

We definitely need to start looking outside of Broward and Miami. We need to definitely go into Martin and Palm Beach counties and advertise ourselves in the Jacksonville, Orlando and Tampa markets (for applicants mostly). Seriously, everyone that comes here from out of the Miami area is suprised at how awesome it is here.
On my floor in my dorm we have people from Jacksonville, Philly, NYC, Brunei, Orlando, Coral Springs and Boca and everyone is either of a few that came to FIU or the only that came to FIU from their high schools. FIU needs to advertise itself outside of just South Florida. We're 10x better than that, the word needs to be out, FIU rocks!!
