There are over 80 sculptures on-campus, the largest on any university campus in the country and around 50 of them are by Martin Margulies. Now, it was reported in the Miami Herald that he is planning on taking a lot of them out of FIU and to a warehouse he owns to put them on display there. Okay, one, a lot of these sculptures are part of the traditions here on campus like the people on the bench in the Graham Center, the fries, the red cylinders by the greek mansions, the spinning cube, etc. These are part of campus life and they're being sabbotage. So, I suggest that we all contact Mr. Margulies and ask that he please not take them as they're a part of FIU. Here's the Miami Herald article: www.miamiherald.com/416/story/143852.htmlHere's where to contact Martin Margulies: www.margulieswarehouse.com/contactus.htmlPlease, let's protect our sculptures!

I don't like this Noah Bierman writer at all. He/She was the one bringing in wrong, slanted numbers when talking about FIU's push to bring in the Med School, omitting some factual numbers. He also reported eagerly on other FIU and Maidique errors, or negative moments. Now, he makes sure to introduce "commuter school" in every article he writes. While mostly true, it seems to me he feels good adding this "commuter school" words to his articles.... Ok...I got it out of my system....

I say we all write to him and tell him to stop it with the negative adjectives already. It's all about getting your voice out there.

If that artist wants to take out some or all of his sculptures let him, he got a lot more visibility at FIU UP than he's ever going to get at some warehouse in Overtown. Best thing we can do about that Beerman hack is to just ignore him; his type hates that (I'm not even reading the article ). Time to look forward to a brighter day. T.D.A.O.S.

We all need to write his editor not him. His tone is biased and unprofessional.

We'll I sent Mr. Noah an e-mail pointing out how he constantly refers to FIU as a "young, commuter school" explaining to him how FIU has changed since the 80's and 90's and he said he "hadn't realized the changes" and will try to stop referring to FIU as such. So maybe it helped and he'll finally start acknowledging the new things at FIU.

I really enjoy and have pride in all the different sculptures that is on FIU's campus and it really sucks that he wants to take that away from the students

Ha Ha; you really believe that crap Kevin? If so I've got some property west of Krome you might be interested in. But seriously, these guys are professional word-smiths, they know exactly what they're saying, who they are offending and who they are massaging. So until he/they write something that leaves out all the little digs, I call b.s. on him/them.

At least his answer is a step in the right direction, and knows there are some FIU'ers out there that are not necessarily happy with his sytle....

I think this thread has become more about the article itself and not about the sculptures

One of these sculpture includes the spinning cube, and I won't be happy to see it gone. They took most of the sculptures already and the school looks empty.

The spinning cube, the red cylinders at the entrance of campus and a bunch of other ones have become iconic of FIU and part of the traditions here on-campus. This sucks. Yes, they belong to him, but maybe FIU could persuade them to keep them or maybe even purchase the more iconic ones.
