Just heard that a MASSIVE part of being ranked is how many people donate back to the university as that reflects the experience they had it has NOTHING to do with the actual dollar amount.

I'm not sure what the weighting is for this variable but it's a bit ridiculous that this is even included in the rankings. This cannot tell you anything about the quality of education received.
My friend's an FSU grad and he says that they send him solicitations stating the importance of this variable in the rankings. FSU, like everyone else, is playing the game.
With the endowments that the most prestigious universities have, the top 20 are always going to be the same. One year it's Harvard, next it's Princeton, then it's Stanford's turn and so on and so forth.
Bottom line, solid state schools are the best bargain in this country.
