Hernandez FIU Senior Paula Reategui is the first Golden Panthers since last Oct. 4 to earn Sun Belt Conference Runner of the Week honors. FIU’s Paola Reategui (Miami/Braddock) was named Tuesday as Sun Belt Conference Women’s Runner of the Week in a vote by league coaches and sports information directors. The senior won her first-ever individual title last Friday at the Sodexho Stetson Hatter Cross Country Invitational in DeLand, Fla. She out distanced a field of 164 runners from 17 colleges and universities (9 Division I) by clocking an 18:15 over the 5K course and helping the Golden Panthers to a second-place team finish. She became the first Golden Panther harrier to win the weekly conference honor in more than a year when teammate Deirdra Withersthingy was named SBC Runner of the Week on Oct. 4, 2006. Reategui, a 2006 All-Sun Belt performer who finished fifth at the league championship meet, picked up a personal-best time at the Walt Disney World Cross Country Classic two weeks ago when she crossed the finish line in second place with a time of 18:00.86, which is the fifth fastest in the history of the program. Reategui and her FIU teammates now set their sights on the Sun Belt Conference Championship meet, Saturday, October 27 in Bowling Green, Ky.
