www.miamiherald.com/sports/colleges/FIU/Nine FIU athletes make NCAA track regionals Nine men's and women's track and field athletes will represent Florida International this weekend at the 2007 NCAA East Regional championships in Gainesville. The two-day event starts today. Six women will compete in a total of eight events, led by senior Maneka Maxwell, who will take part in three races -- the 100- and 200-meter dashes and the 400 relay. Maxwell finished a close second with a personal-best time of 23.61 seconds in the 200 meters two weekends ago at the Sun Belt Conference championships. On the men's side, junior Jerod Wims will run in the 100 and 200. Wims owns the second-fastest time in the Sun Belt in the 100, 10.34 seconds at the Miami Hurricane Invitational on March 17. It also is the 27th-best time nationally. Junior Alonzo Phillips also will run in the 100 meters. His time of 10.46 seconds March 17 was fourth in the Sun Belt.
