This is a bit disapointing because coach kremser still has the passion. Pete Garcia has been an absolute jerk to coach Kremser since the day he was hired. Pete wanted 2 get rid of soccer and use the extra money for football. Karl Kremser did one hell of a job at FIU. There are some great coaches at fiu who are very uneasy these days because of pete and jody smith. They finally got Jody a boss in hopes that she will quit. I for one am sad to see Karl go.

FIU 12 is right. PG made this move for no good reason and with no class. Coach Kremser deserved so much better. Panther fans should be nervous that a guy who operartes like this is our leader.

He retired, I don't see how Pete had anything to do with that. If something else happened then Karl needs to say something and people should stop insinuating everything else. I think 90% of all FIU fans (unfortunately, because I LOVE SOCCER), would say that if we have to sacrifice Soccer for Football then we should. Unfortunatley there is only a limited amount of funds to go around and you have to prioritize (just like any business). I think that being in South Florida, Pete has his priorities straight (Football is KING).

Innuendos are flying around here, with no facts to back them up. I feel bad a man that has given so much for FIU in 27 years just retired.....some even here insinuate he was fired, it seems. I don't know him personally, but he was cordial with me when we've met...and he was certainly a FIU guy, which I will always appreciate that fact. Some people I know say he was nice, some I know say otherwise. Regardless, I feel sad a chapter in FIU history is closing. If he was wrongfully treated "without class" by PG and staff, I don't like it. If he was "forced out" because of different visions of the future, then it is PG's prerrogative, in my opinion, regardless of personal feelings about Kremser and stuff.
Having said that, regardless of it all, I like the vision PG seems to be putting forth for FIU Athletics. For FIU to reach heights we have never even approached, some tough decisions have to be made sometimes. They may not be popular to some apparent insiders, but are decisions that have to be made. Period. I take with a grain of salt what some anonymous poster in his/her first post say, especially considering the nature of this post. After being a fan of FIU for soooo many years (22 years now), I can't begin to say how much in disagreement I'm with 241104, especially since his/her post doesn't offer any fact, just an opinion (which may or may not be true, by the way)on how Kremser was treated, and why this is something to make FIU fans "nervous".
As a FIU fan, I'm not nervous. On the contrary, I see, as a FIU fan, many good things beginning to happen. I see a direction whose main thrust is to win, to graduate kids, and to grow the programs, via a plan, using football as the main resource. I see, for the first time, FIU people actually taking time to attract new season ticket holders. Actually, a good friend of mine just called me last night, surprised and happy that a representative of FIU Athletics just called him to check on him after attending the Blue-Gold game, making himself available, and offer him any of the ticket packages available.....Folks, he had not EVER, EVER, EVER, (and neither had I in 22 years!) been called to offer FIU tickets, after attending an event, be it the Blue-Gold game or any other I have attended.
Now, you tell me if I, as a long time FIU fan, should be nervous....or on the contrary, hopeful that good things might be coming? I think (and I say this with as much compassion and understanding as I can, since I've known (or met) many of the past and current coaches in FIU's staff) that the ones that should be nervous, be it right or wrong, classy or unclassy, are the members of the staff and coaches.....not the fans. The fans, or at least I, want to have a program that wins with class, and students that represent the best of FIU, academically and athletically.

fanatic, help me here. Will we or will we not have a men's soccer program next year? If so, how does this money go to football? And why should Kremser not be the coach? Seriously. Give me one good reason why Karl should not be the men's soccer coach. Why does it indicate progress when the most successful coach in the department is unceremoniously released for basically no reason? (And don't be so naive. He retired because they would not renew his contract.) Tell me where the progress is if good people who love FIU and have always WON with the class you care about are sent away?

Sorry, it's the perogative of the CEO (AD) to make those decisions, that's why he's hired. If these new coaches don't work out then he (Pete) will be the next one to go. Again, I think Coach Kremser should have stayed if he wanted to (he's not Danny Price), but if Coach felt that he couldn't get the resources to win and Pete basically told him that he wouldn't be getting much more than what he is now, then I can see why Coach would want to "retire."

Again, I don't know the specifics. All I know, and my point was, that I as a fan am not "nervous" with PG at the helm because of this one incident. From what I see, I'm pretty excited today at the future of FIU Athletics, actually. I'm not being naive, btw, I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt. Regardless of that, my opinion stays in the overall context I was trying to explain. There is a change in the "corporate culture" of FIU, and while I would prefer not to step on some decent peoples' feet, if it means the program is going forward....after so many years of a mediocre program at best...so be it. It may or may not be the worst decision ever for the program...I don't know. All I know is some things need to change.

The university community will miss Coach Kremser. He brought us two national championships and a 1996 national runner-up finish, among other outstanding seasons. Those are not small feats. Best of luck to him and his family in retirement (or whatever he chooses to do from here).

FIUBlue82, that's something we can all agree on.
