....again, I find it interesting and with enthusiasm the fact that Thomas also alluded to the fact that this job (FIU Baseball coach) was "coveted" by many.....Pelegrin mentioned that in his blog...right on the money...

Turtle Thomas had a flight to catch late Thursday evening out of Fort Lauderdale that would eventually take him to Omaha, Neb., to join the Arizona State Sun Devils in the College World Series.
includes the Golden Panthers.
On Thursday morning before more than 100 people at the entrance of University Park Stadium, Thomas, a current ASU assistant coach, was introduced as the new FIU baseball coach replacing Danny Price, who was fired May 19.
''It was pure excitement and energy,'' Thomas said when asked about being offered the FIU coaching position. ``I was jumping up and down and doing cartwheels. This opportunity is a sleeping giant. You could just take a look at the list of applicants for this job and you see it was a real coveted job.''
Thanks to his knack for recruiting, Thomas was the clear choice for athletic director Pete Garcia.
In his two previous stops before ASU, Thomas produced 18 consecutive top-10 baseball recruiting classes at the University of Miami (1988-1999) and Louisiana State University (2000-2006). He also is the only recruiting coordinator who signed the No. 1-rated class four times.
Some of his recruits have included major-league stars such as Chipper Jones and Alex Rodriguez.
