The list of possible candidates is impressive. Glad that Arteaga and Dimare are being considered (especially since they graduated from my alma mater - Westminster Christian ).

University of Miami assistant baseball coach Gino DiMare interviewed with Florida International athletic director Pete Garcia on Tuesday for the Golden Panthers' head coaching job.
Hurricanes pitching coach J.D. Arteaga will interview today, Garcia confirmed.
''There's interest there,'' Arteaga said Tuesday. ``We'll see what happens. I'm looking forward to sitting down and talking to them and seeing where the future is for both of us.''
FIU fired baseball coach Danny Price on May 19 after 28 years and more than 1,000 victories. The Golden Panthers finished 26-29 this season and have not made the NCAA postseason the past five years.
Garcia said he had conferred with Louisiana State athletic director and former UM assistant Skip Bertman and Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez about possible replacements. Garcia said there was no leading candidate.
''We're scheduled to interview a couple guys this week and others next week,'' Garcia said. ``There is no exact timetable for finding a head coach.''
UM coach Jim Morris said DiMare and Arteaga were ``great candidates.''
''They're both from Miami, they have connections in Miami and Pete Garcia knows them. Either one would be a great choice for him,'' Morris said.
Morris was contacted by Garcia to relay his interest in interviewing both coaches soon after Price was fired.
''I asked him if he would wait until the season was over with and he did,'' said Morris, whose team ended its season with two losses to Louisville in an NCAA regional last weekend.
``Not only are they outstanding coaches for me, but they're really good friends, too. They're Miami guys, but I would never, ever do anything not to help my guys move up to be a head coach.''
DiMare, UM's recruiting coordinator and hitting/outfield coach, grew up a Hurricanes fan and graduated from Miami Westminster Christian. He was a standout outfielder for coach Ron Fraser from 1989-92, with a career batting average of .290. He earned his UM degree in 1998.
Following his UM career, DiMare signed as a free agent with the Red Sox organization and played in the minors with Winter Haven and Fort Lauderdale from 1992-93. He returned to UM in 1997 as a volunteer coach before being hired in 2000 as an assistant.
DiMare's recent signing classes have been rated among the best in the nation.
Arteaga was recently inducted into the UM Sports Hall of Fame. He graduated from Miami Westminster Christian in 1993 and earned his undergraduate degree from UM in 2002. He played for UM from 1994-97 and is the career leader in victories (43). He got as far as Triple A during his five years with the Mets and Astros organizations, and he has been coaching for five seasons.
Besides DiMare and Arteaga, Garcia is expected to interview former Tennessee coach Rod Delmonico, who was fired Monday; Arizona State assistant and former UM assistant Turtle Thomas; Rice assistant Mike Taylor; Le Moyne (Syracuse, N.Y.) coach Steve Owens; and South Carolina pitching coach and former FIU pitching coach Mark Calvi.
• Morris said sophomore catcher Jason Hagerty will have reconstructive elbow surgery and will be out at least eight months. Also, infielder Jemile Weeks will not play with Team USA this summer to recuperate from a groin injury, and sophomore pitcher Eric Erickson will not participate in the Cape Cod League this summer to rest his arm.
