I'm a little suspicious at these firings. This guy will be a prime candidate to replace Paul Dee. Is he trying to prove he's a 'tuff guy. Time will tell.
Now - on the specifics.
Just what is expected of Baseball and Softball and Soccer and whatever. Are the resources (= $$$$) available to make these sports competitive. What will be FIU's lead sport. Remember, a school the size (sports-wise) of FIU can only really do 1-2 big time. This is not Ohio State with a $95 Million sports budget and boo-koo supporters who will pony up big time $$$$.
What will be the sports emphasis for FIU?

I see it like gpantera. However, FIU aspires to be in the top at every sport in our conference, the Sun Belt, which we alreadly have the highest budget in the conference. Rome wasn't built in one day, you know....

The problem - some teams in the Belt are already emphasizing particular sports - e.g. Western KY = Basketball. Given this situation, you might end up second all around. Second in the Belt will not get you big crowds in Miami.
Look across town. I bad year in Football and the attendance at the final FB game was 30000. Miami is not a town where second best will "play".
I would suggest an emphasys (e.g. baseball) where you can become a national powerhouse.
