I have an almost identical way of seeing this thing like FIUFan does. Perhaps it is the fact we are some of the "oldest" fans of the programs at FIU...but we have seen our share of goodness, but for the most part...of mediocrity.
I would have preferred DP would have gone in not such a "bad-taste" way, but after reading from both sides, as usual, it appears PG did give him some other options, and Price (commendably, perhaps) chose to fight it....Also, there seems to be a lot of misunderstandings, since it was said (or implied) by either Price/and or the media, that Price was "escorted out" of FIU by campus police...This was denied by both Pete Garcia and FIU Police Chief Bill King. So...there is a lot of emotions intertwined in all this...
A very good man has lost its job and that pains me. However, I do not see his "firing" totally in itself as an act of disloyalty nor disrespect, as some people, more emotionally attached to Price really think. I saw it coming, many of my friends saw it coming, the FIU beat writer saw it coming, even some people in the Athletics Department saw it coming. Unfortunately, the way it transpired did not suit Price well, who is a "no quit" guy, as he stated in the press.
I'm sure the fact PG has not been in "power" for so long makes it not as tough to make these type of decisions than if he would 've been on the job for some years. Particularly, since DP is, or appears to be, such a very good and decent man. So, as 'Fan mentions, his emotional attachments to individuals, and yes...to FIU so far, is not as great as to many of us here, especially those close to those coaches and administrators that have lost their jobs.
