Good luck to our founding coach Gwydir wherever she ends up.... It is time for a new chapter in softball as well now....
Let's see...Everton Edwards, Strock, Kremser, and Gwydir....4

From what I was told, Price knows he will not be back as head coach.

Well, that would make sense, given the lack of success the baseball program has endured the last 4-5 years, and given what has happened so far with our coaches....
Now, did you read an article where Elih Villanueva, a former FIU player who just won the Florida JC pitcher of the year award, basically said he progressed a lot more his year in Miami Dade than at FIU?...it killed me...we need to change that perception...
Price has been great for baseball. He is FIU baseball, really. But I believe now that rather than helping this program the last several years, and looking at the future, that he is not the man to take us where we want it bo be, and where the program deserves to be........Regardless of that, he is a very nice man, and, like Kremser, is an integral part of FIU Athletics.....

You have said it well. Price is FIU baseball. He has built the program from the ground up and brought the most money into the FIU's athletic program in its history. So now that he has built it, you going to ripped it out of his hand. There would not be a new stadium standing there for all to enjoy if it was not for that man. He needs for Garcia to get off his butt and work with the program coaches at hand. Garcia is nothing but trouble. When he fires everyone and looks for his new coaching staff, he will not have the staff that has laid the foundation but a bunch of new comers that don't know which way is up. Price knows the program. Garcia needs to show support to Price and his baseball team instead of pinch hitting with his UM team. Slapping their butts and telling Miami players at the Miami vs FIU game was real impressive. Doesn't he know that his own baseball team is watching him. That is a disgrace to FIU athletics. Someone needs to wake up and smell the coffee. Garcia should go if anything especially before diehard Price.

Sorry, this is Garcia's 1st year and Price's problems have been around waaaaaaaaaay before Pete got here. Danny's last 5 years (which Pete has nothing to do with) have left a lot to be desired! Goodbye and Goodluck Danny. It's about time we stop settling for mediocrity and start holding people who have a history of mediocrity accountable. If all of Pete's coaches fail, he will be held accountable too.
If Danny is such a great fundraiser then maybe the University can ask him to be their chief fundraiser, he has proven in the past 5 years that he can't be a good baseball coach. GO PANTHERS!

Danny's program has been in a downward spiral over the last 5 years. He's lost it, for whatever reason. Yeah, it's time for some new direction.

Alot of the staff--in every area, not just coaches (support, administrative, etc)--will change before next semester. The folks on this board are big Panther fans and the most loyal supporters. They should know that PG is not liked and not respected within his own department. Even aside from the debate of which coaches should stay and which should go, his decision making is scattered and very often shady. His communication is non-existent. This isn't just a situation where change is hard. This is about bad leadership and not enough experience as an AD.

I'm for the changes in the athletic department. I worked for the Executive VP that oversaw the department. I understand just how it operated and the culture of accepting mediocrity. Changes are needed if we want to excel.
We need to give Pete Garcia time. The fact is, he was an executive in a professional football organization (the Cleveland Browns) and a high-ranking official over at UM. Whether UM is hated or not on this board, no one can deny that the athletic department has achieved great success. Pete is credited with helping Butch Davis recruit the Miami student-athletes that won a national championship in 2001 and was one questionable call away from winning a second the following year vs. Ohio State. Pete was also the man widely believed to be the successor in waiting to Paul Dee. My point: give the guy time. He may not be liked, but no one likes it when they are in their comfy state job where mediocrity is accepted and a new department head comes in and says that the past is no longer the standard. Those Days are over (thank God).

kim got fired after a horrible season. softball hasn't accomplished much in the time it has existed. i've seen A LOT of games, and there's just no excitment there.
baseball needs a shake up. again, i've seen A LOT of games, and can attest to Danny losing it. he was almost fired a couple of years ago, and the athletic department orchestrated a shake up, leaving danny in place, but getting rid of Coach Casanova, essentially ending a 20+ year friendship. that bought danny some time, during which he brought in Tony Casas, who has floated around as an assistant coach, including pitching coach (he never pitched). our staff hasn't been able to recruit, keep players, or fully utilize the players we have. the people most frustrated with the coaching staff, after the players, are the parents, who see their kids stagnating at FIU.
as much as i think danny is an amazing person, he's also burnt out at FIU. he knows its coming, and will probably take a year off, before landing a job in the Carolinas, coaching near home.

See Pete. See Pete Fire Everyone. See Pete leave to Miami. Run Pete Run. Run Pete Run Copyright 2008 FIUrulez You bring up an interesting point via your little poem. What if this was a sinister scUM plot from day 1? They conspired to allow PG to take the FIU job knowing that Dee would retire within a year, instructed him to fire everyone and dismantle and create chaos throughout FIU athletics and then he would be re-hired as scUM AD. This scUMmy plan would buy scUM a few years to get further ahead. If he leaves, this will point to a sinister scUM plot indeed.

Hi all:
This is my first post!! I found this site through the Miami Herald and I am excited. I thought I was one of the few who is pumped up about FIU Sports.
Well... I finally found something that motivated me enough to break the ice with my first post. THE POTENTIAL FIRING OF DANNY PRICE.
From personal experience and that of many of my friends (some who are among the best baseball players in Miami and playing minor league ball) Danny Price is not a very good coach nor is he a "super dupper" nice guy like many are claiming on this site. He has let so much talent go in FIU that I cannot even begin to explain. The same guys who are playing in Clemson, South Carolina, Tennessee, UM and so on. The reason they have left is because of their dislike for Price or lack of opportunity to play. And yes, many of the guys that left are now starting in many of the schools I mentioned (Winning conference championships and going to the world series) and many are playing in the minors. Let me not even get into DP's baseball tactics and strategy... I would have to start my own web site. Bottom line is compare UM to FIU in baseball and it makes you wanna cry. I hate UM as much as many of you out there. But when you think about it, there is not to many differences in terms of opportunity. The difference is one coach gets it done and the other does not.
I am all for a new baseball coach and I am all for the things Pete Garcia is doing. The emphasis is on winning. Many of our coaches have not been doing that. If the hiring of MC is any indication, I cannot wait to see what PG does next.
I feel much better!! Thank you for letting me vent.
