FIU faces defending Sun Belt champs BY PETE PELEGRIN ppelegrin@MiamiHerald.com
Florida International's Sun Belt schedule began nearly one month ago with a 7-6 loss at Middle Tennessee.
Arkansas State, the defending Sun Belt champion and the Golden Panthers' opponent Saturday, opens its Sun Belt schedule at FIU Stadium.
The Indians, who were 5-2 in the conference last season, walloped the Golden Panthers 66-24 last year thanks in part to seven FIU turnovers that resulted in 42 points.
''Every Sun Belt Conference game is a huge one for us,'' FIU coach Don Strock said. ``But Arkansas State is the league champion, and until someone knocks them off, they are still champion. And we've got the first opportunity to do that this Saturday.''
FAVORED STATUS
For the first time this season, the Golden Panthers are the favorites in a game. FIU is an eight-point favorite over Arkansas State.
