This is my first year as an FIU student and i have really plunged myself into its athletics, in a way I'm happy that i am able to see the growth of "the sleeping giant". It makes me feel special that I'm part of the beginning of something great (and not a bandwagon fan). With that said.... in less than a year i have seen the Football program grow substantially and a lot of effort is being but into by player and staff... in other words growth.
But the basketball team seems to be stunned, i don't really see a push to be better... Little to no chemistry, almost no motivation... and what i dislike the most is that i feel that little effort is but into finding real talented guys to help.
I know its not really basketball recruiting time, but on Rivals FIU has one commitment in 6-9 C Freddy Asprilla, nothing against the dude, but i have looked at his video over and over and see nothing good... He's 6-9 and cant jump, seems to be over weight. If that is his "highlight video" then i don't want him. Looks clumsy, against what seems to be middle-schoolers! ... I'm sorry, and if anyone disagrees please straighten me out... but i feel a lack of effort from FIU basketball.

I think you are "seeing" too much into that video as well. Asprilla seems to be fairly highly regarded, as has put some good numbers in one of the best Prep Schools in the nation this year. So, while I haven't seen him play personally, he has put good numbers against some of the best competition in prep hoops. I agree with you that he doesn't seem to be an athletic guy, but perhaps his footwork is better than what appears on video, and his positioning and hustle remain to be seen, as those are two elements for effective rebounding....
Regardless of it all, he hasn't signed with FIU yet....and I suspect he won't if SR doesn't come back to FIU either...

Yep, kiss Freddy goodbye if SR is not in town next year, and the way things are going, he will not be. However, Freddy and Soto, would definately make nice additions. Does anyone believe Garcia let's Rouco get one last chance next year?

HE will not and should not be our head coach next year. He couldnt coach a toaster to toast bread.
But he is a great recruiter and a good person (know some people he grew up with).
I HOPE Garcia continues to get the money he asks for and can keep Rouco on at his present salary and we hire a big time head coach.
