Where the Golden Panthers have struggled is on the road, as the team is winless in seven road matchups. As for the Pioneers, they have lost their last two matchups. The most recent setback was an embarrassing, 71-33 loss to South Alabama. Denver is just 8-11 on the season, however six of those victories have come at the Magness Arena. The Golden Panthers grabbed a thrilling, 61-59 victory over Denver this past season, evening the all-time series at five games apiece.
The Golden Panthers have struggled at times offensively, and they enter this evening's matchup posting just 66.3 ppg on the season. Russell Hicks and Alex Galindo have formed a tenacious duo in the paint, and are currently the top two scorers for FIU. Hicks is averaging 13.4 ppg, and is also collecting 6.6 rpg, while Galindo is netting 13.1 ppg to go along with a team-high 6.7 rpg. The last time the Golden Panthers were on the floor the team put forth a surprising effort, defeating New Orleans, 75-62. FIU shot a strong 51.0 percent from the field and made 22-of-31 attempts from the foul line. Galindo posted a double- double with 23 points and 10 rebounds, while Hicks tallied 17 points to go along with eight boards.
The Pioneers could be one of the worst offensive teams in the Sun Belt and are currently averaging a pathetic 55.4 ppg. With David Kummer sidelined, the Pioneers have just one player netting double-figures, as Adam tanner is producing 10.4 ppg. Denver's lackluster offensive play hit a new low this past weekend, as the team scored a meager 33 points in a loss to South Alabama. The Pioneers shot just 28.9 percent from the field and made just 1-of-16 three- point attempts. Nate Rohnert was the only player with double digits, as the forward posted 10 points. As for Tanner, he made only 2-of-8 attempts from the floor en route to a seven point effort.
Although the Golden Panthers are winless on the road, the team has far too many options offensively, and should be able to slip past a weak Denver squad.
