1:45 PM EDT,June 11, 2007
By MIKE ANTHONY, The Hartford Courant Beau Archibald was officially named the UConn men's bask]]etball director of operations today. Archibald replaces Patrick Sellers, who was promoted to assistant coach.
Archibald, whose playing career was marred by knee injuries, was part of the UConn program for three seasons, playing nine games in 1999-2000. Born in Los Angeles, Archibald attended high school in Arizona. He was most recently an assistant coach at Florida International. He graduated from UConn in 2003 and also earned an associate degree from Utah Valley State College.
"I am thrilled to be able to add Beau to our staff," UConn coach Jim Calhoun said in a statement. "He brings a great deal of different experiences to the position and most importantly, he is a Husky. During the three years he spent with our program, he impressed everyone with his hard work, determination and basketball knowledge and I know he will bring those attributes and more in his return to Storrs."
Before spending the 2006-07 season on the FIU sideline, Archibald was an assistant at Texas-San Antonio in 2005-06 and at Jacksonville in 2004-05. He was an assistant at Florida Atlantic in 2003-04 and in 2002-03, he was a volunteer assistant under Bob Knight at Texas Tech.
"I could not be more excited about coming back to UConn," Archibald said. "I have great memories of my time here and cannot wait to start working with Coach Calhoun, the coaching staff and players. This is an amazing opportunity to learn from and work with the best and I plan to make the most of it."
Archibald comes from a coaching family. His father, the late Lynn Archibald, was coach at Idaho State (1972-77) and Utah (1984-89). His brother, Damon, is an assistant at New Mexico State.
