The 20K that showed up where there for FIU in FIU gear. If they were there for um they would have been cheering the canes. I'll give you one more example of fau caring more about this rivalry, your marketing campaign for our basketball game (I liked it by the way), did FIU ever bother to do anything like that, NO. FIU did their marketing for the um games (football and basketball). That's the difference. Really, like I said, good luck starting your rivalry it might just turn out to be one. But as of right now, this is not a rivalry, it is two teams playing against each other.

Talking about pathetic. This guy is just showing off his lack of iself restraint and intelligence here....trying to be funny or smart, let alone diplomatic, is not one of his traits . For him to come in here in such a totally moronic attitude and full of irate comments speaks for itself. Wow! Go back to your board and keep talking nonsense and hope to break that amazing attendance record you guys have...what is it? 2300? Talking about pathetic......

FIUFanatic...I didn't come over to this board to be funny, smart or diplomatic. I voiced my opinion to see if there are any real FIU BB fans. The only responses that I received were based on "It's only FAU", well if you haven't noticed you have to play us first to move on in the tourney. But it's more important for most of the people on this board, who seem to be the only fans FIU has, to dismiss FAU rather than come out and support their team, not because it's a rivalry but because it's the first round of the tourney.
Why don't you guys stop pretending your more important than you are and try to support your teams and win the games that are in front of you instead of posturing and constantly discussing "next" season.
BTW...you don't have a rivalry with UM and I dare say you never will. A rivalry is really only sustained if each team wins occasionally, just the fact that you are all jealous of UM does not make it a rivalry. Good Luck guys.

No, I said, and you can go back up...That fans should go out and support the Golden Panthers, you just have a reading comprehension issue. In addition, I said, that we should go out and support our women's basketball team since they are at home (again, a previous post). No one here claims we have a rivalry with um, I will claim though that there is more interest in um than there is in fau. Again, if you go back, the post said our "rivals" fau. I merely pointed out that fau is not our rivals and that we as FIU fans don't get fired up for them. I didn't say fau sucks, I didn't say anything to that effect. I merely said to look at the numbers, there is no rivalry and we (fans and the FIU administration) aren't trying to start one.

I agree with Dusky; until we are putting 20K enthusiastic FIU fans in the stands for every game, we are no better or worse than they are. And you have to admit that they are our rivals, not only for attention but for recruits and state dollars as well.
UM is also a rival, whether they like it or not, for much of the same reason FAU is a rival. When you are playing on the same field, at the same level (D-I) and fighting for the attention of the same audience, you are a rival.
We are ahead of FAU in some respects (size, stadium, quality of schools ;D ) and they are ahead in others, specifically the product of sport team they are putting on the field (esp. football, baseball and basketball).
They are our rivals and the sooner we realize this, the sooner we will stop letting them 'eat our lunch'.

FIUFan...thanks for seeing my point, I agree with you regarding size & stadium but the schools I think we can go one to one on. Hopefully we'll be on par with you on stadium in a few years or our program will be in trouble.
FIUPantherFan...If anyone has a reading comprehension problem apparently it is you. Show me where I said that you stated "FAU sucks". Maybe you administration needs to rethink where their efforts are going since your fan support isn't growing very much.
Sorry if I touched a nerve here, I was just trying to have a little fun with you guys but apparently your a little to sensitive. Lighten up boys, it's just a game.

You came here and stated that I somehow attacked fau which I did not. Way to address all the other issues. There's no need to lighten up, I'm not offended in any way, I just really don't feel that much different in facing fau than I do in facing the ULL or ULM.

''This is who we all wanted to play,'' said FIU forward Alex Galindo, whose team takes on Florida Atlantic at 7 tonight in the opening of the Sun Belt tournament. ``It's a rivalry, and we don't have to go out of town to play.''
That was the quote from your leading player, see the word "rivalry" guys, you two might not think it is but your players on both football and basketball do and that's what really matters not the two moderators on this board that try to tell everyone what to think. ;D

It is a rivalry in my opinion. I'm not trying to contribute to banter, nor upset anyone. I think we have the Shula Bowl for a reason - because both institutions want a rivalry. Good luck to both schools tonight...but obviously, go FIU.

First of all, I hardly try and tell everyone what to think. If i wanted that you would have been removed 5 seconds after your first post. There are plenty of people from FIU who disagreeSecond of all, I hardly think Galindo is going to say "We didn't want to play those guys, they're just another team,". Him saying that would have been pretty dumb (think Tim Hardaway dumb). If there's a rivalry and there's no one there to see it (except fau fans at fau events), is it really a rivalry?

That was the quote from your leading player, see the word "rivalry" guys, you two might not think it is but your players on both football and basketball do and that's what really matters not the two moderators on this board that try to tell everyone what to think. ;D Dusky, I think you do have a reading comprehension problem, besides talking without facts. Tell me where did I wrote it is NOT a "rivalry" anywhere in this thread or any other thread, either here or in the "full of traffic and posts" FAU board (according to you). Then, I would expect you to come clean..or maybe not. I know you have problems posting over at your board, and you are eager to post here, but please, try and make other arguments before saying incorrect things. For your Information. I do believe anything FIU-FAU at this point either is a rivalry or working towards it. Also, I believe it is a fact, most fans at FIU have been indifferent (at least this season) to the FAU-FIU hoops games this year. So, it seems pretty evident to me that FAU fans in your message board( for whatever reason you deem correct) are (or have been up to this point) far more interested in this basketball "rivalry" than FIU fans in this board. Heck, the results and great accomplishments of Antwan Barnes and Chandler Williams at the NFL combine had brought a lot, and I mean a lot, more traffic than playing this game against FAU tonight. Does that mean it is not a rivalry? I don't think so. It just shows realities of most of our fans in this board. The question then is...is it only a "rivalry" on paper for FIU fans? Depends on your definition of rivalry to me. Some (like panthefan) might argue that to have a rivalry you need both sides to be "pumped" about the game. Others, might think it is regardless of attendance ("paper rivalry"). If I lived in Miami, I would have gone to all 3 games, most likely...I went to the one in FIU since I was in Miami then.... I would argue also, that the "rivalry" thing is much more evident in football than in men's hoops. And men's hoops rivarly is more evident than in women's hoops (where FIU leads 20-1 All time). Baseball is a pretty good "rivalry" too. However, most FIU fans get more "up" to play Miami than FAU, at least at this point.

FIUFanatic...Your boring me now, go back and read your own posts and figure it out. BTW...It should be a good game tonight and if you guys win tonight I will come to the board and take my lickins', all I was trying to do was have a little fun with you guys but apparently that's not possible with the moderators on the board. Your a little to serious. GO OWLS!
