Hey if you guys have a chance you should check this out
ENGINEERING GALA 2007
The Engineering Gala 2007 is the sixth in a newly created tradition of community events at the College of Engineering and Computing. This year the Engineering Gala 2007 will be held on Friday, February 23, 2007 from 9:30 AM – 2 PM at the Engineering Center on Flagler Street and SW 107th Avenue.
What is the Engineering Gala?
The Engineering Gala was the brainchild of Dean Vish Prasad who wanted the College of Engineering and Computing to be recognized for the exciting and dynamic educational and research facility that it is. His mission is to invite our community to share in the privilege and advantages of having a first rate engineering college in our city.
On the day of the Engineering Gala the College of Engineering and Computing research and learning labs will be open for tours to all invited schools and neighbors. Four of the Applied Research Center (ARC) labs will be open for tours and demonstrations as well. In addition, the Engineering student societies plan to execute engineering contests and events with a “hands on” approach to teaching and learning. The activities, resources and the pedagogic methods used to promote interest in mathematics, science and engineering will be available to visiting educators throughout the event. Math, science and engineering are exciting, dynamic and creative. The Engineering Gala is motivational, educational and most of all FUN!!
Each year the Engineering Gala invites an esteemed guest either from the Science, Engineering or Education field. In the past this event has been privileged to have the Deputy Director of the National Science Foundation Dr. Joseph Bordogna, the Assistant Deputy Director of the NSF Dr. Elbert Marsh, Director of Engineering NSF Bruce Kramer, Bruce Horne the Commissioner of Education for the State of Florida and the President of Florida International University Dr. Mitch Madique.
Lunch will be provided for all of our guests.
If you would like to attend please RSVP to Stephanie Strange, Assistant Director of Recruitment and Retention for the FIU College of Engineering, at sstra001@fiu.edu or call 305-348-1635.
Admission to the Engineering Gala is free. Chaperones for the field trip should be provided according to Miami Dade County or Broward County school board requirements. The Engineering Gala will supply your group with one Engineering Student Tour Guide for the day, for every group of 20 visitors.
