A very interesting article about Maidique's proposal for his next contract, which includes a perk of $250,000 over 5 years as a bonus for his 20 years plus of dedication to FIU. I found interesting that his current pay is less than the national average of colleges, according to this article. I must say, that after his dedication and transformation of our university, he deserves some kind of extra bonuses....How much or how less is someone else's problem..... www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/13834786.htm

Here's a follow-up.
MAIDIQUE'S REQUESTS
FIU President Modesto ''Mitch'' Maidique has given trustees a proposed contract that would expire in 2008, but allow him to retire before then. Trustees have yet to review it or enter into negotiations. But as written, it would: • Pay him $326,340 a year with annual merit raises. • Provide him a $250,000 longevity bonus spread over five years. Maidique would get the bonus as a lump if he retires before that. • Allow him to remain as a tenured professor at his presidential salary as long as he wants and give him control over a $400,000 leadership center in the business school. • Give him a year sabbatical or a year's worth of pay, which he chooses, upon stepping down as president. • Provide him $30,000 moving allowance when he leaves the official presidential residence. • Provide him a $9,000 car allowance while he remains president.
Notice a tone here? Hope this guy Noah Bierman is planning on running a piece on Shalala across town. Oh wait, they're private, they won't let him within 500 ft. of that information. That's the difference between a private and a public institution: TRANSPARENCY. You know, the issue all you media types complain about all the time. Now that you've got it, you decide to use it as a hammer.
Is there a bias over at the Herald, you bet! Just wonder if it really is racism.
