Well here's some good news regarding the proposed medical school I just dug up out of the Orlando Business Journal. Former U.S. Congressman Bill McCullum, and current Board of Governors member, supports the addition of medical schools for the state of Florida. The attached article ( orlando.bizjournals.com/orlando/stories/2005/09/05/story5.html?page=1 ) presents some compelling reasons for the schools and Mr. McCullum says that the BOG's job is not to worry about the funding but to determine whether or not there is a need. To that point the article states that 62% of M-Dade countians are under served for their health needs. Further supporting this is that when there is a shortage of Doctors, health costs go up (basic econ' here folks). So if the presentations are made on the 17th (two weeks from yesterday) the BOG's he says will likely approve 'the need', allowing the process to move on to the Legislature for funding.
