I didn't want to register on your football board because more than likely this will be my first and last post.
The article mentioned on the football board with the optimistic 2005 season for FAU was written by a student for the FAU college newspaper, not a national or statewide publication. He or she is trying to get team spirits up and get a little enthusiam going.
Don't take it like it was meant be something other than a pep talk for the FAU students. FIU of all other schools should know how important this has become.
If you are still upset, put an article in the FIU paper and turn it around and say the same things about FAU.
As far as "poor journalism" well I'm guessing you not a journalist or a journalism major. I think the article is very appropriate for what it is trying to do, get the student body excited about the up coming seaon.

Well, I believe this is just an article written for a particular target market....the FAU community, and as such the apparent optimistic review. I think we (at least I do) understand the meaning of this.....no I myself am not upset, it just sort of amused me more than anything. As I mentioned on the "registered" board, some historical facts are made, along with very rosy and absurd comments.....
I don't think much should be done about this "article", in fact I agree with the notion that if the writer's mission was to get the student body excited, than he was right on. However, if his point was to make an attempt to objectively analyze the season, he just failed, based on his conclusions and downplay of FIU for that matter. For this reason, I believe we have the right to comment and share our thoughts about what this guy wrote, whether some consider it "good journalism" or not....that's really not the point.
Actually, it's kind of fun, and maybe some guy in the FIU paper would do something like that.....however, if it's not done, I won't care much either.
BTW, Illinoisowl, it would be nice that you would register here for this board and offer your thoughts and analysis here....For the most part we've had good relationship with FAU fans here........

In thursday sun sentinel Howard predicts a 2-9 season since he lost so many players He also stated there would be no Sun Belt championship for FAU So if the coach is not optimistic then I cant see the fans being either

You know Illiniowl, in this day and age, you should expect anything you put out on the net to be challenged. Showing team spirit shouldn't mean throwing bs out there. He can pep talk all he wants and we can trash the crap out of him for his obvious ignorance. If you think the article is appropriate then explain some of the idiotic comments he made instead of just defending him blindly. Like this: "Let's be brutally honest: FIU's football team is struggling and hasn't been able to compete with its neighbor to the north. All-time series: FAU 31-21 (2002), FAU 32-23 (2003), FAU 17-10 (2004) Prediction: FAU 31-27 Umm, 7 - 10 point losses to a team that has Soph's when your freshman, Jr's when your Soph and Sr.'s when your Jr.'s looks pretty doggone competitive to me. Can't Wait till this year's Sr. laden team makes that clown eat his words. ;D ;D

FIUFan, you're young. I know its great to have a team to chear for and to see the the college you graduated from or are attending do well and make a name for itself.
I'd like to see how much sleep you lose over an article in a college newpaper once you get a job, start raising kids, get laid off from a job, make deadlines, attend a few funerals of family members. In other words, GET A GRIP!! This is a sporting event and the article was in a publication that is not really intended for the general public. A general search on the net pulled up a page on the FAU web site.
Maybe I took all this stuff too seriously when I was your age also. Its is fun. And I am keeping up with it. All the publicity that FAU football is generating is helping me outside the state of FL where no one had heard of FAU or FIU prior to the two schools deciding to go NCAA.
And to conclude, I don't know why you are getting angry at me in your reply. I didn't write the article. I was just trying to alleviate some misunderstandings.

You know I'owl, you've made as many absurd assumptions as the writer of the school newspaper.
First, I'm not young (unless you think anyone under 40 is young), I have two kids, I'm sitting in the Ft. Lauderdale Airport on my way to D.C. for three days of business at 12th and Pennsylvania, I have not lost any sleep and have only pointed out how ridiculous the comments of that 'writer' were.
Finally, I am not angry and only addressed you to ask you to "explain" some of the comments he made; obviously you choose not to do so.
You know old Owl, you guys come at us with your talons bared, don't expect some of us over hear to just laugh it off.

to FIUfan,
Dig it, the Shula Bowl scores were close. You play to the level of your competition. We tore up Hawaii, then got North Texas (2 bowl teams). No one thought that would happen. Then we played a team with a losing record, FIU, beat you by a few points. What does that tell you bro? You play to the level of your competition.

If your team plays to the level of the competition, then, amazingly that could very well be 's a coach's problem....FAU guys, the only thing we are saying is the comments by that writer are deemed by us to be ridiculous and absurd....He contradicts himself and exxagerates....Should we lose any sleep over it? Of course not, and neither should FAU guys get so excited about some pretty normal reactions by FIU fans, I believe......See, I haven't even reacted on FAU's board on this matter, since I thought it was pointless and unnecesary.

Mojo, to refresh your memory, this was in response to the writer who said "Let's be brutally honest: FIU's football team is struggling and hasn't been able to compete with its neighbor to the north." Now how does what you say about playing to the level of the competition relate to his quote that FIU has been able to compete. Your point doesn't apply to this conversation; bro.
