18. Is there a possibility of selling the naming rights to GPA or maybe the refurbished football stadium?
Answer: Yes, definitely, in fact the football stadium will require naming before it's built. I have yet to explore possibilities of selling naming rights to the Golden Panther Arena, but on the surface that would be a little more difficult now because it’s harder to demonstrate the need, since the facility is already built. Also, since GPA was built with state funds, there would be some limitations there as well.
Poor, illogical answer. Naming rights are "sold" to companies to help them market their products. With more games televised the revenue we accrue will increase. We should definitely sell naming rights the Arena and the floor. Naming of the football stadium and football field should be sold year-to-year - preferably on a multi-year escalating contract based on performance and televised games. +0 pts. [45]
19. Recently, FIU has had tremendous success in attracting top athletes to the university in most sports. To what do you attribute this success and do you believe that we will be able to continue this trend?
Answer: I believe the trend will continue and the reason is two fold. First, we are in a hot bed for athletic talent here in South Florida. Second, if you speak of tradition, one of the traditions that FIU has been really successful at is the ability to attract international students. When you look at the quality education and all of the wonderful things that FIU has accomplished (law school, Phi Betta Kappa Chapter, Research I designation, etc.), we will be able to offer any young person a great education and quality athletic experience.
We haven't had much success in attracting top athletes. Our (poor) record speaks for itself. The question is, 3 years after you were hired as AD why have all of the programs degraded?
AND NOW WE HAVE "STUDENTS" WHO CARY AND SHOOT GUNS AND ENGAGE IN ACTIVITIES THAT WOULDN'T BE TOLERATED AT 99% OF THE COLLEGES IN THE COUNTRY - WE KNOW STROCK RECRUITED THEM-HE SHOULD ALSO TAKE SOME OF THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS DISCGRACE.
I SHOULD SUBTRACT POINTS FOR THIS ANSWER. +0 pts. [45]
20. Give a statement of your overall view of FIU athletics.
Answer: We have a highly competitive program but we have only scratched the surface as far as the infrastructure and the presentation of our program to outside constituents. In many ways we are the best-kept secret. Right now, our athletic competitiveness is far ahead of the things that create successful programs (consistent outside funding, large fan base, consistent media exposure, etc).
The point that I made earlier is that we have to start having a consistent philosophy in this program and making sure that when we have good ideas that we stay consistent with them over time. This institution has experienced so much change in athletics that we have yet to really define ourselves. We should be further along in many areas than we are, but we'll get to where we need to be, in time.
We have a program with absolutely tremendous potential. But there will be a point in time where loyal supporters are going to grow tired of hearing the “potential” word. We are going to have to start turning it into something tangible and that will happen as our support base grows. At the moment with an initial campaign, the Golden Panther Club has attracted well over 100 members. That number needs to be higher but it shows that there is enthusiasm out there.
We just need to go out with a consistent message and start bringing people into our program. There's no question that football will play a major role in this.

However - I don't like the word "potential" when the turnover in athletes is 3-4 years. We see other schools turn around their programs in 1-2 years because they bring in coaches who can recruit and motivate players. If the Coaches we have can't win after being here 4 years they need to find another less competitive conference or high school job. The Athletic Director also needs to find a new home.
