Davis also said that the attentiveness of the coaches was what helped him choose FIU.
He said that his first contact with colleges began as early as his sophomore year, but FIU had been the most persistent.
With an easy grin and genial nature, it might be hard to believe this 6'1-1/2'', 235-pound linebacker received such an aggressive-sounding prize as the BHS team's Headhunter award, but Davis says he's so different on the field that it's like he's two different people.
“On the field, I get more serious; I guess I let my mean side out,” he said. “I love defense, I just like to chase and tackle people.
“With football I'm the worst guy, but with everything else I'm the best guy.”
Davis said he had a lot of respect for his linebacker coach, Melvin Jenkins, and that he learned a lot from him. One of Jenkins' college coaches at Florida A&M, Larry Williams, now coaches at FIU, so that created another special connection.
“I think he's going to dominate,” Coach Jenkins said. “A lot of schools said he was too big, but he's an NFL prototype. He's humble, dedicated, and works very hard. We'll see where he goes.”
Davis said he was thinking about majoring in sports management, “but a lot of people do that so I'm not sure.”
