Baby gives Hilton a sign: FIU
BY ANDRE C. FERNANDEZ a1fernandez@MiamiHerald.com Torn between West Virginia and Florida International University, Miami Springs' wide receiver T.Y. Hilton took a different approach to make his college choice.
He let his 9-month-old son, Eugene, pick for him.
''I put the two caps side by side on the bed and let him pick which one he liked,'' Hilton said. ``He crawled over and touched the FIU cap. I switched them. He picked FIU again. Six times he picked FIU.''
Following his son's ''sign,'' Hilton signed his national letter of intent to play for the Golden Panthers on Wednesday morning at a ceremony at the Miami Springs school library.
Hilton, an All-Dade first-team selection in football this season and basketball last year, also had an offer from Mississippi.
He caught 42 passes for 785 yards and 14 touchdowns this season to lead the Golden Hawks to an 8-2 record.
''When I got back from my trip to West Virginia, I just sat in the shower for like two hours just thinking,'' Hilton said. ``I really didn't know who to pick. My dad told me just to pray and ask God for a sign. When my son did that, I knew that was the sign I needed.''
