I say go for it. Better to make this transition now then down the road, if we EVER become relevant, with several 1000 users to transition instead of just couple hundred now. Yes we do lose the history but, truthfully, our history hasn't been much to remember since St. Peters.
But the graphics on the new site do need to improve, it really can't have a generic feel if we expect the site to pull people in. I know you may not have the website expertise, I certainly do not, but there are professionals out there that create great websites pretty cheap...you can then start selling ad space, gear, etc. on the website once it takes off, and eventually it will take off once the program does. If you do this right, you will be sitting on a gold mine. If not done right, competition will eventually push you out. Hopefully not the latter.

I vote for moving to the new board immediately. I think it is MUCH better. Like mentioned by others previously, our history on this board isn't worth keeping this format for.
The new board just needs some FIU graphics -- clean, simple graphics that our university uses, nothing too fancy, and no pictures (please, no references to Don Strock or any former coaches).
Moving to the new board would be like taking this messageboard to D-1. It's time to do it--were a few years behind our football team in that regard.

Also, if you're going to transfer over the message board to fiugoldenpanthers.com then the main site design should be upgraded to match the theme or look of the message board. Similar to what that kid did at fiupanthers.com. As it is now, if someone finds fiugoldenpanthers.com they may not even bother checking out the board because of the amateur looking design on the main site.
Not trying to be overly critical, we all appreciate this forum and what you started, just trying to point things out that could make this site very successful not just for us as fans but also for yourself as owner.

Sounds like everyone is good to go on the move, regardless, which is good. Give me this weekend to see if I can do anything about the messages and some graphics on the site. Thanks for the responses.

I'm not really that good at computers, but would there be a way to create some sort of database where we could archive all of the messages off of this board? It would be a good way to keep from losing all of the "history" of the board.

R.Blan, you hit the nail right on the head, and that's excatly what I'm trying to figure our. However, proboards is a proprietary service and they don't give out their databases, so I'm working with the another moderator to see if there is any other way that I can get to that database on upload it into the phpbb one. However, if we can't figure it out, I don't want to delay the move. We shall see.

i like the idea of the new board. this one if a little difficult to get to, whereas the other one definitely has a more "searchable" URL.
additionally, i think the phpBB boards are very well put-togther, and from my experience dealing with them, upgrades are relatively "easy" to install, with seamless integration.
with that said, we should have several moderators that will monitor the board on a constant basis, to make sure people aren't spamming the board, or inciting problems. also, as i stated before, posting my non-members should not be allowed. you should at least have to register and post a couple of messages before being allowed to create a topic (something i have seen work on several other boards, and it drastically cuts down on spam posting).
these are just things to keep in mind.

Pantherfan - go for it. Move the site over.
Just a quick thought: I appreciate the fact that an alum created this site which has been a vehicle for the FIU community to post and share its thoughts. As a result of joining and posting, I've had the opportunity to meet good people like FIUFanatic, GPantera, FIULatinpower and others. You creating this board has been a positive for FIUers from all over. Thanks.

Got some good news, it looks like it might be possible to transfer the database over to phpbb. Not making any promises but hopefully it will work out.

Well, as far as the website goes, I've been in discussions with the administrator of these message boards to merge the fan site that I developed with these message boards. I think it would make for a great combination. For anyone who hasn't seen the site yet, you can visit it at: www.fiupanthers.comor www.fiu-panthers.com

Would right around now be a good time to make the jump to the new board with football wrapping up and basketball just really starting?

Go for it. Make the change. As for the history, is it posible to upload the info to a server?
