Well, since we've been discussing the attendance requirements for I-A and all, I'll try to predict attendance for the season. Obviously, I don't even know where we are this season so far in terms of season tickets as compared to last season. Last hard figure I read last season, put the numbers at 3,400 in an article that Mello was quoted just prior to the season. Of course, many things can happen to affect, both positively and negatively in actual attendance, specifically if our W-L record is good, but, let's take a stab at it. I'm predicting the numbers based on our previous year's history, trying not to be too optimistic.
LAST YEAR
BC-C 13,123 They brought in at least 4-5k
Carson N. 6,707
SFA 5,299
Holy Cross(HC) 4,506
Jacksonville 3,512
FAU 9,288
AVERAGE 7,073
THIS YEAR
Jacksonville 9,000
Western Kentucky 7,000
ULL 6,500
McNeese St. 7,000
Georgia Southern(HC) 8,000
FAMU 35,000
AVERAGE 10,883
If this wild and unscientific prediction holds true, it would mean an increase of 54% over last season. Obviously, well short of the 15k "requirement", but still a sizable increase over last season, and a small step in the right direction. Now, I hope that I'm being overly cautious. However, I can't be more optimistic at this point (except for the FAMU game....I don't know if we can get 40k or 50k or 30k....I just don't have an idea), unless a dramatic increase on season tickets sold this year is announced, a dramatic upswing in wins this year sparks interest, and, somehow, a dramatic "resurgence" in student and alumni interest in FIU Football, regardless of how we are doing on the field.
In my opinion, this shows the daunting task we have ahead of ourselves to make this thing happen, and to develop, market, and support this our very own fledging program. Hopefully, these other "entertainment" and "marketing" plans will help in spiking interest for some games, thus elevating our average to respectable numbers.....
There you have it.....what about yours?
