I happened to hear today's show while in Miami. The usual suspects called, but Strock and Randy did give us some interesting info.
It seems that with the WAXY Radio shake-up, the Strock Talk show....and even the broadcasts of the games, might be moved from WAXY to another station. Randy mentioned that anything was possible, but the fact he raised the possibility of having to "move" the broadcasts doesn't bode well for FIU to stay at WAXY. I guess we will find out soon....
Strock did give a rather quick review of players in both the offense and the defense. Obviously, the 3 players arrested are either off the team or not being counted on. Also, I have learned that Damion Haye, Mike Gulla, and Mike Sherril are not on the Media Guide roster, thus out of the team, although Sherill may come back in 2005 if he improves his grades......
Strock mentioned players coming back and also some of the new players that might have an immediate impact. On offense, he mentioned the return of Burke and the new QB's, Chapman and Kendrick who will most likely be redshirted. On WR's he mentioned that Andre Rollins was much improved and expects big things from him. Also talked about how Chandler Williams has gotten bigger and better, and newcomers like Julius Mincey.
He mentioned at RB that Rashod was healthy, but that Tori's situation was still uncertain. Obviously mentioned Offensive Player of the Year, Adam Gorman coming back, plus the talented newcomers from Dade....Julian Reams and Ben West. At the TE position, he mentioned that Struyf is getting a surgery, but he is very high on Sam Smith, and newcomers Chris Harzinski and big and agile Moses Hinton (was at 280 at a time while playing hoops). He also mentioned some new additions to the returning OL players like Ben Reynolds, Dustin Gibson, Xavier Shannon, a guy from Indiana named DeMarcus Green (or something like that) who was invited to walk on to Notre Dame, and USF walk-on transfer Bailey. Sounded very, very upbeat with the OL unit coming back.
On defense, he mentioned that we had to recruit at least 7 newcomers on the Defensive Line, which "was our biggest weakness last season" Mentioned he wanted to get quicker upfront to try and get to the opposing QB since we only had like 7 sacks last season. In my opinion, that is correct but....we need to stop the run!!!! Mentioned Tad McConahie as a big lineman recruited by many, big local kid Sabas Whittaker, mentioned the kids from American High (Frazier, Alfonza Johnson)he recruited who were pretty fast, but only in the 230-240 range at the moment.
He mentioned some newcomers in the defensive backfield who should contribute right away, like Malik Jones, Lionel Singleton, and Jack Roberts....but was very high on two newcomers at the safety position...Marshall McDuffie, Jr, and big and fast Andrae Swaby, from Pahokee, who could eventually move to linebacker if he keeps growing physically, but who runs a 4.4 forty.
Special teams: mentioned the possibility of red-shirting Patullo for future years. Also mentioned a kid from San Diego , California who was supposedly timed at 4.26 or 4.28 forty....he would be returning kicks alongside Greg Moss....what a tandem!!!
Well, that's my review of the show....Pretty interesting information, particularly about the newcomers.....
Sorry about the long post
