I just found out some interesting news about WAXY 790, turns out they may become much more involved in sports talk. Personally, I think this is great because this will bring a much larger audience to FIU's radio station, I don't see a downside to this and this will only increase the amount of people listening in to 790. That means more people listening to FIU promos and FIU radio broadcasts. Hopefully, this will create a greater interest in the coach's show and will result in more listeners to our football broadcasts. I've quoted some stuff from an insider on a marlins message board and an article from the Herald about the possible outcomes of this:

OK, as everybody knows, WQAM is pretty much dumping sports for shock talk by picking up Howard Stern, but 790 AM will be launching a new sports station format on Sept. 1st according to my sources.
Possible Hosts include Joe Rose, Jeff DeForrest, Dino Costa, Dan Patrick, Colin Cowherd, Jorge Sedano (will he choose HEAT or new ESPN 790?), Don Strock/FIU Athletics, and possible additions of the Marlins, Panthers, and Dolphins are all possible.
You could also see Boog Sciambi, Dan LeBatard, and other local sportscasters end up with shows on the new 790. This station is to be modeled after other ESPN Radio stations but with alot more local stuff in the mornings and afternoons/evenings.

As of right now....Goldberg, Mandich, Rogers, Jorge, and Kaplan cannot leave WQAM without sitting out their contracts non compete.
Looks like Joe Rose and DeFo will handle the morning show, while Costa and Sedano are rumored to be doing the afternoon show. Other hosts could be on weekends or evenings. Don Strock's show will continue as will the continuance of 790 as FIU's flagship station.

Dolphins and Marlins both have their contracts up....who will move off Puke-AM? Dolphins will command big money and will want an FM...101.5 and 102.7 may not want to add the Dolphins simulcast of all the games.
My guesses are Fins go to Y-100/610 WIOD or stay with WQAM (560 is going down!), with the Marlins and Panthers fleeing to 790. The Heat will stay at 610 with their new contract.

Ex-Dolphin Rose signs off NBC
NBC 6 sportscaster and former Dolphins tight end Joe Rose, whose weekday radio show is about to be bounced by Howard Stern, bid farewell to his WQAM listeners Saturday and said he would start a new show elsewhere Sept. 1. According to multiple sources, Rose has been negotiating with local businessmen who are expected to launch an all-sports station on WAXY-790.
The station would be an ESPN Radio affiliate. Rose would give the new all-sports venture a marquee name to compete with Stern, whose 6-10 a.m. syndicated show will be picked up by WQAM beginning Aug. 16. ''I'm taking a month off and then starting something . . . Sept. 1,'' Rose told his WQAM audience.
Another potential WAXY target is Jeff DeForrest, Rose's former WQAM morning co-host who now does a 4-6 p.m. show for WFTL-850 in Palm Beach. DeForrest has been contacted by the new station but has not received an offer.
WQAM general manager Greg Reed said he probably would have re-hired DeForrest to team with Howard David from 5 to 8 a.m. had he not added Stern. Reed said he has met with the Dolphins, who are not happy about WQAM's decision to add Stern, and thinks it's ''50-50'' whether the team will choose to remain on WQAM after this season.
Reed said he added Stern because ``it was a chance to land a superstar. We need to secure the future of WQAM.''
Reed also said Stern's show would be aired on slight delay ``to keep something obscene off the air.''
Stern often goes past his 10 a.m. sign-off, and Reed said WQAM would stick with Stern's show until conclusion, even if it means delaying the start of Neil Rogers' program.
