Some interesting articles and notes from the SBC Media day in New Orleans earlier this week have appeared in some SBC media locations. Too bad neither The Herald nor the Sun Sentinel covered it. FIU and FAU were also invited..with Strock, Mello and one player, Victor Cernius participating in the event. Here are some excerpts from articles I've found in different SBC school sites:

From the Jonesboro Sun (Arkansas St.)
Florida International head coach Don Strock opened his remarks with humor.
“I would have worn a coat and tie, but I lost that at Harrah’s, too, last night,” Strock said Monday morning.
Strock’s Golden Panthers are entering their third season of football. FIU has an all-time record of 7-16 after posting a 2-10 mark last year in Division I-AA.
The Golden Panthers’ schedule will include three Sun Belt opponents and several I-AA powers. FIU will play neighboring rival (and future Sun Belt member) Florida Atlantic at Pro Player Stadium in the “Shula Bowl,” with the winner taking the Don Shula Award.
FAU head coach Howard Schnellenberger coached with Shula in the NFL while Strock played for Shula during his 14-year career with the Miami Dolphins. Strock admitted that his Dolphins background helps recruiting.
“It doesn’t hurt, let me put it to you that way. To see Dan Marino hanging around practice, or Nat Moore or those type of guys, it doesn’t hurt, either,” Strock said. “I always tell the coaches when we’re recruiting, ‘Listen, the kids may not know us, but I sure as hell know the parents do. They’re in that era.’
“Offensively we’re pretty wide open as far throwing the ball and it attracts the quarterbacks and receivers, guys like that. It helps to be in that area and spending as much time there as I did, and being involved with the Dolphins.”
