I think Padrick may start the season as the starting quarterback. However, I would not be surprised (if he's fully recovered from injury) for Jamie Burke to win his job back. I think he's the more talented of both quarterbacks.

I think he's the more talented of both quarterbacks. I don't about that MaXx. Jamie Burke may still be rusty after taking so much time off. He is more of a pocket passer also which makes him a sitting duck for a faster defense. With the speed that is shown now, I think Strock may have to stick with Padrick because he is more athletic (scrambles more) at least until we have a more solid O-line. That's why we were lucky to get a blue-chipper like Tavares Kendrick who can move around. I think you will see QB's like Burke (like D an Marino) start to become a dying breed.

So Payton Manning is a dying breed? Sorry, but I don't think so. Josh and Jamie will battle for the spot but I think going in Jamie is going to have to knock Josh out of the starter position.

Just read that article before coming on here. I honestly believe that if Burke is healthy he will be a serious contender for the starting job. This is especially true if Padrick struggles early on.

X, per the offensive coordinator, Jamie will need to earn his spot back by beating Josh out of it (see article above). I am not saying that statue QB's are a dying breed, just that with a scrambler, you can have more of a mediocre O-line and get away with it. More positions are key with a pocket passer like RB's, O-line, WR's, etc. With a scrambler, you can get away with alot more because of the many options that a scrambler has and the time that he can create for himself. Look at Atlanta in 2002 and look where they were in 2003 (without Mike Vick). If he stays healthy this year, they will definitely be in the playoffs. With a good scrambler, you don't necessarily need an excellent RB. That why Allen Suber of Bethune-Cookman was so hard to stop 2 years ago, until we figured him out last year. We exposed the fact that he didn't have other "Super" players around him. Albeit, we lost but that is because of alot of our own dumb mistakes and lack of discipline (i.e. Georgia Southern, Gardner-Webb, etc.). If we limit those, we will have a better season like FAU's. We will learn because alot of that is attributed to youth; which will get better every year as the program grows. Look at teams like UL-Monroe in the Sun Belt Conference last year; they made little mistakes and lost alot of games because of it. Their record doesn't reflect what they will do this year in the conference.

There are so many factors you have to look at in order to determine who would be the starting QB. All of which are a moving target because of the experience each aspect gains during every game. I feel that Padrick should be the starting QB and Tabor the solid #2. If Burke show's he can come back from the injury and produce and win the spot, then more power to him. Thats great for him and FIU. This team is fortunate to have this dilemma.
A QB has to have the ability and the 6th sense to scramble if he needs to. Our offensive line has improved tremendously and will continue to do so. However, they shouldn't have to hold off the Dline for more than 7-8 seconds. If the defense has got our receivers covered, its up to the QB & recievers to roll out and make something happen. If the recievers are all covered, they need to have the instinct to make themselves available to the QB, they can't leave him out there floundering for tool long. The running backs also play a roll in that too. If they see a busted play, they can either make themselves available or help in the blocking to protect the QB.
I was very impressed with Padrick last year, being the 3rd string and getting the reps that he did in practice at the time, he did very well. I see that 6th sense in him that I don't always see in Burke. Both are very athletic, but my fear is tha Burke is too fragile.
This is all just my opinion.

I stand by what I said before: they will battle for the position but Jamie will have to beat out Josh for the job. Right now, it's Josh's but that could easily change in the upcoming workouts. Remember, Jamie was remarkable our first year - Sporting News indy team as a freshman. I still think Jamie has a better feel for the game even though Josh IMO is more talented. Just because you have more talent however, doesn't mean you're the best man for the job. In any case, it's going to be a lot of fun seeing them battle for the job. I agree with Pride, it's a good position to be in.

I agree, until proven otherwise, I don't think that Burke can take the pounding of an 11/12 game season. The teams are getting bigger and more physical, so is our OL but I don't like going into the season thinking that one blow to our QB will force us to re-evalute the position.
Josh can run, he can throw and he can take a lick; Burke can throw. I think Burke would make a great back-up and a guy who can come in and ignite the offense; but as an every down QB, I have my doubts.[/size]

Tabors got the experience, he should at least get a shot. Burke can't move around that well and Padrick isnt perfect either, in my opinion, give tabor a shot strock!

Based on the article, the offensive coordinator is giving everyone a fair shot. It is currently anyone's job to win and the decision is up in the air until training camp.
