Just wanted to pass some information I found out on the new football field. I talked to a guy at the SFC where he gave me the run down on what going on. He said that the football field will be expanded probably at the end 2005 or beginning of the 2006 school year. The expansion will first relocate the track field close to where the elementary school is located at. Then the football stadium would be constructed to seat about 30K people.

This is great news, I am happy to know there is a plan in place. I know we aren't a rich school but I hope we can find a way to make it a truley South Florida style stadium. This would help: 1.bring south floridians out, Miami is all about EVENTS and being seen at events. If its a "cool" place this will help alot. 2. It will help give us a unique identity (ala Banda del Sol) 3. If its a unique structure it may in conjunction with accomplishments on the field help land us in the national press. Soooo we could: 1. Make it art deco 2. have it resemble a bull fighting stadium (I know$$$$) 3. make it resemble a soccer stadium and we might even be able to make some cash hosting international soccer friendy matches) 4. and if we really have no cash, paint the whole think pink and aqua and hire Philip Michael Thomas and Don Johnson as greeters. FIU ummm... that guy at the SFC was blowing smoke up your butt... there's no space to move the track near the elementary school, because the school is squeazed between the softball field, and the expanded tennis courts (not to mention the enormous parking garage that has gone up there). now, i have talked to my people (i really can't reveal who, but let's just say i notch or 2 below mello), and i've been told that the plans are to renovate the soccer field, and replace the turf (because it is really in bad shape), then put the track around the soccer field, to give that field more use during the year. oh, and the turf on the soccer field will be the same as what is on the football field. the reason for this is because the soccer stadium was unusable for a couple of games last season, and the games were moved to the football stadium. when the soccer team played there, they absolutely LOVED the turf, and told the administration that they wanted that turf put into the field. also, the football turf, although more than 3x the cost of grass, lasts much more than 3x the length of grass, and can hold MORE games without suffering the problems of grass (eg. looking like crap after it rains, or after a long season).

Okay here is the low down and trust me, I know my stuff. The track is going to be placed around the IM fields they're going to most likely build and all turf field with the track around it near the elementary school. There is enough space they are going to fill in the pond at the end. Its going to cost about 1.5mill. The Stadium is going to cost about 30 Mil. Already we have 2 mil and chasing 8 more. As soon as we have 15 mil we will finance the rest. Can I hear a help-a-panther fund here. By the way we are going to have 4 games televised, I am not sure exactly which ones however.

Here's a question for some of you guys with inside info. What are they building to the West of the football stadium? Is that FIU related or is it something with Tamiami park? They've closed off a pretty big section and are building something there. Any ideas?

McNasty Well, now we have two theories of where they will move the track field. I guess and hope we will find out soon enough whose sources were the best. Since I don't have any inside info as to this matter, I can only speculate. I thought that the soccer field was a natural, but thinking about it, they would literally have to "move" the field to the north and to the west so that the track could fit. Reason? The baseball field is very close to the south of the soccer field, and the "natural preservation of trees" or whatever is to the east of the soccer field. I like the idea of "building" a new stadium for $30 million. Sounds good, doesn't it? For that, obviously, we need to find lots of $$$$$. We have to find that one "Big Donor" to reach the mark where we can go on and finance the rest of the cost. Hope you are right about these plans. Anyways, thanks for the info to all....let's see if anyone can offer more inside information on this stuff. It has been discussed that the first two games will be televised, and I speculate the Homecoming game will be as well. The fourth one, specially if it is Sunshine Network could be either FAMU or FAU...both are Florida teams with obvious interest to the rest of the state. Anyone knows specifics? Wow!! 4 games this year on TV!!! Sounds good to me....

I was debating wether or not to post on the new message board format, but decided that this conversation warented my response. Here's a question for some of you guys with inside info. What are they building to the West of the football stadium? Is that FIU related or is it something with Tamiami park? They've closed off a pretty big section and are building something there. Any ideas? I was curious just as MaXx was and remembered that the county has a pretty good web portal that provides lots of useful info (miamidade.gov). During an evening of searching a researching, I discovered that what is under construction to the west of the stadium is actually road, parking, and field enhancements. The county (Using money from the Fair appearantly) is building a couple soccer fields there as well as a couple baseball fields. As for placement of an intermural field next to the elementary school, this can be easily seen in the campus master plans. Those plans can be viewed by anyone who wants to view them and can be found at facilities.fiu.edu . Basically, they are planning on placing the intermural field right next to the current one, between the current field and the pond there is enough space. From what I have heard about the stadium, after the last game, they will tear down all the stands and begin construction of new stands. I have heard nothing about capacity or architectural style, or any other fun stuff, but will let everyone know as soon as I hear something

I posted after our first year of football that the admin was already planning on the stadium. So it's not surprising that construction will start this rapidly. The admin has had very good vision and I don't think we give them enough credit sometimes.
