How did the animals (ducks, alligators, foxes, turtles) at FIU get there? I am just wondering.

Maybe naturally through the canals, lakes and ponds from the Everglades to our little ecosystem. Also, having a huge natural preserve on-campus helps.

I think that the foxes and the ducks were killed by the random dogs that were running around campus. I'm glad that they are gone, caught or killed, either way I'm happy.

no those dang dogs. They would run around in packs around school, barking at the dorms at night, and chasing people on the bikes. They would even come up to you if you were outside of breezeway. I'm glad to see that they are gone.

Are there really foxes on-campus? That's cool. I know there's tons of ducks, primarily by the Frost Museum and Lakeview Hall South. They just sit there in packs quacking but they're also a bunch of ducklings which is really cool to see.

I have only seen one fox so far. I have seen ducks, or course. I have seen turtles. I know there's alligators there but I haven't seen any yet, so far. They don't bother anyone though. Just don't mess with them and they won't even bother.

I was driving once to the gym last year and hit a dog. They were fighting and as one ran away from the other he plowed into the side of my car. All I heard was a yelp. I got out of the car and they had both ran away and my car had no dent. No harm, no foul, I guess. They did though take too long in removing them, someone could have been bitten.

yippee your "caught or killed" and your "hate strays" comments really bothered me as I am a huge animal lover. First off with your statement that you don't care if they were caught or killed I hope your not one of those people that also was saying what Michael Vick did wasn't that big of a deal as they were "only dogs"
Now, in regards to your love dogs but hate strays comments. It is not the dogs fault that they are strays. Do you think when they were born they were thinking "hey I really wish I was a stray with no home" This is NOT the dogs fault it is our fault as humans. I feel horrible for strays because first off if the original owner did not want the dog to begin with then why purchase it? Who ever was the owner decided they did not want the dog so that person let it go to roam the streets.
#2 it is the humans fault for not being responsible in spaying or neutering there dogs so these dogs reproduce as strays then the puppies are born strays. Not really these poor dogs fault. It is us as humans fault, not the dogs. Do you expect these dogs to act friendly since they NEVER had any loving contact with humans? They are vicious because they are scared of humans and if we are close they are going to try to defend themselves since they again had no positive experience with humans they only see us as threats.

When you live here on campus and you wait to get out of your car because the dogs are running around, it becomes a problem. The reason I didn't care if they were caught or killed is because they were harming the other animals at FIU. They were killing the foxes and the ducks. While walking to class you would see parts of the ducks bodies laying in the street by the lake behind PC. When you see this and realize that they are killing other animals and not just being those unharming dogs, that's when students get worried. If they didn't kill things I wouldn't of have cared if they stayed. But I would much rather have the foxes then the dogs. We all have our opinions on this board and if I say that I don't like strays, I don't like strays. I understand that it is the humans fault but what if someone wants to get rid of their dog lets say because their child is starting to have allergic reactions to it. Should they put it down, or bring it to the pound? Because either way they will get put down if they are not the 'caring and loving' looking dog that everyone wants. and Michael Vick.. he's an idiot for what he was doing. I'm glad that he moved to a place where are more strict so he can get into trouble.

Strays don't bother me and I feel bad for them too. You just have to be careful because they can be aggressive. By the way, my baby (the one in my sig and avatar) got spayed today. Poor thing is all woozy and she's out of it.

It's a good thing they killed some ducks while they were there; those ducks were out of control.
Invasive species and defecating all over the place.
