FIU12 YOU ARE SO CORRECT. PG HAD A MEETING WITH JD ARTEGA WHILE THE BASEBALL TEAM WAS AT AWAY GAME. U THINK PG IS GOING TO HIRE SOMEONE WHO IS NOT FROM MIAMI YEAH RIGHT. EVERYONE HE HAS FIRED HE HAS REPLACED WITH UM PERSON. WE WANT FIU TO BECOME SOMETHING EVERYONE SAYS IT NEEDS A CHANGE WELL WHY ARE WE BRINGING IN SCHOOL RIVAL PEOPLE. YOU WANT UM PEOPLE TO LEAD ARE SPORTS TEAM WHEN THEY ARE OUR BIGGEST ENEMY. I THINK EVERYONE THAT SAYS THEY ARE A FIU FAN THEY NEED TO CHECK WHERE THERE FANSHIP LIES. I DONT THINK IT IS ABOUT THE COACHES THAT GOT FIRED ITS ABOUT WHAT PG WASNT DOING TO HELP THEM GET BACK ON TOP. BUT NOW YOU WILL SEE SOME CHANGES OF COURSE HE IS GONNA HELP HE HAS TO PROVE A POINT. BUT YOU STILL CANT CHANGE THE UM IN SCUM AND YOU CANT CHANGE PG FOR BEING PART OF THAT SCUM. WHY WAS PG FIRED FORM UM ?? SOMEBODY NEED TO DO THERE RESEARCH.. I BET THERE IS A LOT YOU SO CALLED PG FANS DON'T KNOW ABOUT HIM..

errr... a bit bitter?....For the record, PG wasn't fired from UM, as far as I know...He left for FIU this time, and to the Cleveland Browns with Butch Davis the first time around. At least get the facts right in your very first hate posts here with name calling and what FIU fans should do according to your logic....Geez....get over it..

Baseballgirl1, I'm glad you asked. The "company line" given by UT's current AD is that the program was inconsistent and that "there was no indication that the program was heading in the right direction". That's bull. I'm going to tell the real reason in a moment. First, I direct your attention upward to my first post. The development of the SEC Eastern Division over the past 15+ years clearly establishes the volatility and competiveness that the East developed and in some respects overtook the Western Division. Goodness, even Vandy and Ky are competitive now. There is what appears to be "inconsistency" up and down the SEC now. Look where LSU is now, where Vandy is now, where Florida is now ('05 CWS - '07 cant qualify for a regional) But it really isnt "inconsistency". Schools are loading up - succeeding - and losing players. It has become the natural development and decline of teams in the SEC. Tennessee is a perfect example. Load up for 1995 CWS run, lose players to the draft. Load up for the 2001 CWS run, lose players to the draft and load up for the 2005 CWS run, lose a ton of players to the draft. But here is where things really stood with Tennessee. 2006 and 2007 signing classes are in the top 5 in the nation, every defensive position going into the 07-08 fall and spring is filled with veterans and stocked with pitching from starting rotation to middle relief/stopper to closer. With draft losses suffered by Vandy, Florida and South Carolina, Tennessee under Coach Delmonico was poised to take over the East in 08 - no doubt. So what is the real reason his contract was terminated? Bear with me while I break this down for you. Coach Delmonico was NOT the current AD's "guy". Coach Delmonico was hired by the previous AD. Tennessee's current AD had a similar situation with basketball. The Coach was not his guy and he terminated his contract early and made a great hire with Bruce Pearl. Going into the 08 baseball season Coach Delmonico's contract was structured such that if he went to a regional he got an automatic 1 yr. extension. If he went to a super regional he would have gotten another year. The AD did not attend many games, he did not go on the road with the team and he did nothing to create a relationship with Coach Delmonico. UT does this thing called "The Big Orange Caravan" where the AD takes the football coach, and men's and women's basketball coaches to various Tennessee cities as part of develoment. The AD never, ever asked Coach D to go in any of the past 4 years, including '05 when UT went to the CWS. The AD made this decision to terminate Coach D's contract and I believe he made the decision before this season even began. So now he is getting "his guy" to be the next baseball coach. Now, he pulled the trigger on the no. 2 sport and no. 3 sport at UT. What do you think is next? Football - Coach Fulmer has a target on his back now. Also, athletic department administrators, fans and former players all urged the current AD to retain Coach Delmonico and they/we were ignored. So, you can take this for what its worth - but it's all true. That's why I want Coach Delmonico to be considered for FIU - He can make everything that he has accomplished at UT happen at FIU and even more. If you still dont believe all the accomplishments were acheived by Coach Delmonico, go to www.utsports.com, then go to baseball and click on the media guide and read it for yourself and then ask yourself this question - - - Do I want to gamble and hire an assistant who wants to try and create a name for himself or a head coach, who has been to Omaha 3 times in 10 years, with the experience, fire, desire and drive to capture local talent away from Miami and the other Florida schools and get FIU to conference championships, winning regionals and supers and taking the program to OMAHA. This is a no brainer. As Coach Delmonico said on the radio last Friday night - "FIU is a sleeping giant". Coach D is one that can wake that rascal up and turn it into a winning giant. Any other questions?

Great post Tennessee, out of all the candidates that have been mentioned for the FIU job Delmonico definitely seems like the best overall candidate because of his experience, but he might also be expensive. Personally of all the candidates, he's the one I hope that gets the job.

Read my post from Page 1. I really dont think he will be expensive and I explain why I say that in my prior post. But you are right when you say that Coach Delmonico is the best overall candidate. One thing that I would want if I were Pete Garcia is to make a "Big Splash" with this hire for a few reasons. (1) To excite and attract the fan base and new fans immediately - individual and corporate season ticket sales means foundational money; (2) To immediately excite and attract big time, big name local recruits; and (3) To immediately turn around a program that is at an all-time low. Will an unproven assistant do that or would a proven commodity whose been to OMAHA 3 times in 10 years do that? ?? It's a no-brainer!!!!! What is interesting is that the media and the fans appear to support hiring Coach Delmonico because they realize the same thing. There does not appear to be any excitement by the media or FIU fans or simply even positive comments on any of the assistants that are being considered. If I were Pete Garcia, I would give the media and fans something to get excited about, something to look forward to!!!!
